A couple with a carefully curated home in Philadelphia hired Stanev Potts Architects to design a 3rd floor addition with rooftop access. Because of the client's love of literature, the addition includes a study with a custom bookcase that screens the stairway to the roof behind it. A new living space with floor to ceiling windows frames views of the city beyond.
The addition projects beyond the building line to capture additional living space and create additional areas for plantings on the roof deck. As a space meant for relaxation, a dedicated area for an outdoor bathtub or sauna is included in the more private locations of the roof deck shielded by the pilot house, existing walls, and plantings.
