The Howard, a multi-family project located in the Olde Kensington area of Philadelphia, is currently in the construction phase. The new construction is set to be a six story mixed-use building with 45 one and two bedroom apartment units as well as artists' studio space on the ground floor.
The building takes on the site's material language and plays subtly with form. The break in the line of the building is a simple yet effective way to differentiate The Howard from the rest of the block.
Situating itself on a block of warehouses, many of which have also been repurposed as artist studios and apartments, this design is respectful of its history while reflecting the same language as its industrial context. Located a half-block from the Market Frankford line, the site is an easy commute into Center City. The neighborhood itself is active; having recreation centers, grocery stores, coffee shops and restaurants all within walking distance to the site.
